Product information "M3 / M3A1 U.S. WWII Halftrack DOUBLE COMBO (1:35)"
Plastic model kit of a U.S. American M3 and an
M3A1 half-track armored personnel carrier
True 2-in-1 kit
The M3 was one of the
most important armored transport vehicles of the Allies in World War
II.
Introduced in 1941, this half-track served as both a troop carrier and infantry fighting vehicle. Including variants, over 50,000 vehicles were produced and used on all fronts of World War II and later in Korea, the Middle East, Vietnam, and elsewhere.
The M3 evolved from the smaller M2 half-track by receiving a lengthened hull to provide more space for infantry. The fighting compartment was open at the top (no roof).
The main difference between the M3 and M3A1 was the mounting of the main armament, the M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun. While the M3 mounted it in a simple rotating gun mount with a limited traverse, the M3A1 had a ring mount that allowed for almost 360° of rotation. In addition, the M3A1 received improved weapon mounts, optimized stowage, and minor modifications to the propulsion system and equipment, and was therefore not a completely new design, but rather an evolution of the M3A1.
Many M3s were later upgraded to the M3A1 standard (often through field modifications).
